Welcome to the Desperado "This Old Boat" website.  The purpose of this site it to provide J22 owners with a guide on how to refurbish an old J22.

Desperado finished up the 2000 racing season with a trip to the J22 North American Championships.  After returning, I decided to perform some long overdue maintenance on her old hull.  I decided that since Desperado, at 17 years young, is one of the oldest J22s and has most of the problems that old boats get.  I also thought that others could gain from my efforts.  The net result is this web site.   We plan on documenting all of ills of the boat, posting them on this site, requesting opinions from the experts and owners to correct the problems, executing the fixes and showing the results.  This site is a working site, as we fix problems, we will post new pictures and text up to the completion of the project.  One of the reasons I think that Desperado would be good candidate for this project is that I have no evidence that she was ever severely damaged in any collision or accident.  Therefore, any of the damage is caused by old age, poor maintenance and typical wear and tear.  None of the current damage was caused due to improper repair of a major fix.
